Main interest rates

• Debit interest rates applied to any form of financing are freely fixed by banks and negotiated with their customers, except those applied by the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS).
  
  -Currently applied rates are :
  
      min = TMM 
      max = TMM+7 points

cf.  retrospective series of money market monthly average rate (TMM)  

-the rate applied to home  financing by the Housing Bank (BH), for holders of housing savings passbook amounts to  5.75%.

• Credit interest rates are freely set except for the following categories of deposits :
  
  - The interest rate applied to sight accounts and to any deposit or placement in dinar for a period of less than 3 months, is ceiled at 2%,

-  Starting on 1st April 2008, the rate of remuneration rate for special savings accounts (TRE) open at banks or the postal savings centre (CEP) was freely set. Yet, this rate must not be below 2% as fixed by article 36 of the BCT circular to banks n° 91-22 of 17 December 1991 as modified by  the first article of the BCT circular to banks n°2011-11 of 19 September 2011 cf. retrospective series of savings remuneration rate (TRE)

- Rate applied to deposits in foreign accounts in convertible dinars by Tunisian private individuals living abroad and in special accounts in convertible dinars must be at least equal to TMM of the considered period minus 2 percentage points,

- Rate applied by BH to holders of housing savings passbook is fixed at 4.25%,

• Legal interest rate in civil field which has been fixed since 15 February 1983, is 7%,
  
• Legal interest rate in trade field is equal to the maximum rate of bank overdraft, fixed by the Central Bank of Tunisia, plus half a point. ( Retrospective evolution since 15 February 1983 of maximum rate of bank overdraft ) ,
• Arrears of interest for overdue settlement of public markets is equal to money market monthly average rate (TMM),
  Article 1100 of the contract law
  Article n°87 of decree n°89-442 of 22 April 1989
   
• Weighted average rate (TMP) of short-term Treasury bonds (B.T.C.T.) for the last auctions (in % per year)

• For transferable Treasury bonds (BTC) and Treasury bonds negotiable on the stock exchange (BTNB) , the last issues are dated October 1999 and December 1997 respectively,
