THE CENTRAL BANK OF TUNISIA’S MONEY MUSEUM
GENERAL AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Located on the east side of the Central Bank of Tunisia’s new building on Avenue Mohamed V.
Inaugurated on 15 November 2008.
BUILDING AND ARCHITECTURE :
Elliptical space covering 600 square meters between the 0 and 1st floor. It contains a permanent exhibition room, a temporary exhibition space, a media library and a shop.
2000 coins of different periods: Punic, Roman, Byzantine Vandal, Medieval, modern and contemporary. 200 banknotes from Tunisia and different countries from the Maghreb and from Europe. The technical aspect relating to the manufacturing and destruction of coins is clearly visible and explained thanks to the exhibition tools, on the 1st floor, which help to carry out these operations: metal blade with holes, round metal disks (planchets), strikes (inscription on coins), coin plaques before banknotes printing; tools and banknotes destruction.
